Some Facts About Youtube

A little about YouTube's history, and what exactly you can do on YouTube.

For those of you who aren't familiar with YouTube, let me tell you a little about it. This website was created by three former PayPal employees. And who might they be? They're names are Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Steve Chen has been in the online websites business before YouTube. Not only did he work for PayPal, but he also worked for Facebook. Co-founder Chad Hurley has also been in the websites business and worked for eBay. The last co-founder of YouTube is Jawed Karim who respectively graduated from Stanford University.

YouTube is a site for online video bloggers, fans, celebrities, etc. People can create videos and post them up, performers can upload music videos, and basically, anyone can create a video of anything and post it up. It's really, a quite easy-to-navigate site, very user friendly. You just type in a subject, person, or whatever you are interested in finding a video of at the top of the page in the search bar, and then you get results. You can choose to organize the results by recently updated, most viewed, oldest, ratings, and relevance. The default that they appear in is relevance.

On the video's page, you can see how many times the video has been viewed. This makes the video more popular, and it will be more likely to show up in the results page.

Numerous people have become famous due to YouTube. Of these people, some include: Lucas Cruikshank, a teenage Nebraskan who created a character on YouTube who was named Fred. Fred is a 6-year old with anger management issues and his mother is an alcoholic. The videos were started becasue Lucas and his friends were bored, and then they got so many views that he became quite famous, and many people started to view his videos. He also has promoted songs, artists, and movies in his videos. Anther person who became famous due to YouTube is Esmee Denters. She is a singer/song writer who uploaded videos of herself singing some of YouTube's most popular songs. She was later recognized by a Dutch Manager and met Justin Timberlake and signed a deal with him. Last, but not least of YouTube's famous uploaders, is Iman Crosson. He uploaded videos where he made parody's of songs and acted out different scenes, where he impersonated Barack Obama. He became so popular, that he sang for Aretha Franklin on her birthday.

So as you can see, YouTube can be used as video sharing website, and a way for kids to learn subjects by viewing videos uploaded by teachers, talk to friends who are around the globe, upload music videos, and so much more. The possiblities are endless! YouTube shows that the internet has grown so much over time, and that we can expect more great things to come in the future.
